1ST ANNUAL LAVALAND PARK COMMUNITY CELEBRATION

 

We are organizing a community celebration to meet our neighbors and have some fun.  It will be held at Lavaland Park every Saturday and Sunday in September from 10AM-4PM.   Each weekend offers a variety of engaging activities and opportunities for the community to interact with public officials, community leaders, and local businesses while enjoying quality time with their families in the park.

 

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

WEEKEND 1: SEPTEMBER 7, 2024

CITY OF ABQ COMMUNITY MEET AND GREET

 

10:00 AM - 10:30 AM: Opening Ceremony

• Welcome speech by the event organizer

• Dedication of Lavaland Park to Councilman Ken Sanchez by Mayor Keller

10:30 AM - 11:30 AM: Meet and Greet with Public Officials and Community Leaders

• Interactive booths set up by councilmen, elected officials, fire/police departments, and local businesses

• Opportunities for the public to engage in discussions, ask questions, and provide feedback

11:30 AM - 12:00 PM: Fire and Police Department Demonstrations

• Firefighters and police officers showcase equipment and demonstrate safety procedures

• Q&A session for the public to learn about emergency response protocols

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch Break

• Food trucks and vendors offering a variety of cuisines

• Picnic area for families to enjoy lunch together

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Family-Friendly Activities in the Park

• Arts and crafts station for children

• Face painting and temporary tattoos

• Live music performances by local artists

• Games and competitions for all ages (sack races, tug-of-war, three-legged race)

 

 

WEEKEND 2: SEPTEMBER 14, 2024 – HEALTH AND WELLNESS FAIR

 

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM:

• Guest speakers from local health organizations and clinics

• Information booths on nutrition, exercise, and mental health awareness

11:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Meet and Greet with Local Businesses

• Health vendors booths

• Discounts and giveaways for attendees

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Family-Friendly Activities in the Park

• Yoga and mindfulness sessions for all ages

• Games and prizes (tug of war, volleyball)

• Exercise/dance sessions

• DIY gardening and plant potting station

 

WEEKEND 3: SEPTEMBER 18TH, 2024

PARKS DEPT - ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

 

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM:

• Guest speakers from environmental organizations and conservation groups

• Interactive exhibits on recycling, sustainability, and wildlife preservation

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Conservation Demos

• Hydroponic/Aquaponic gardening demo

• Gardening tips

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Family-Friendly Activities in the Park

• All about NM plants

• All about NM flowers

• Landscaping tips

 

 

 

WEEKEND 4: SEPTEMBER 28, 2024

FAMILY FUN

 

10:00 AM - 12:00 AM: Dog Contests

• Panel discussion with local youth leaders and mentors

• Workshops on leadership, civic engagement, and entrepreneurship for young people

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Food Contest

• Food trucks and vendors offering a variety of cuisines

• Picnic area for families to enjoy lunch together

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Family-Friendly Activities in the Park
